Issue of Paid Umpires

Hello York County Little League,

During the September 2014 York County Little League General Membership meeting, the membership tasked the new Board of Directors to investigate supplying paid umpires for YCLL games for the 2015 Season.

The BOD has concluded this investigation and during this process, reached out to several different Umpire Associations. All of them have replied with the exact same response. That is, they are "unable to supply enough umpires to accommodate the games required for YCLL".

Therefore, YCLL will not be supplying paid umpires. We will, however, be implementing a new program called; York County Volunteer Umpire Association (YCVUA).  YCLL will supply the necessary training to get any volunteer umpire, Little League certified for BB or SB. This includes rewarding umpires that participate on regular scheduled basis, points to use towards the league paying for their umpiring equipment & dues.

Anyone in the community wishing to volunteer, should contact our Umpire-In-Charge (UIC) Brian Grondin at [email protected]

York County supports the Little League philosophy of it being a volunteer-run organization, on and off of the field.

I encourage everyone to read the letter from the VA D7 Umpire President located on our web page and Facebook page.
