Our Teeball program is called "Rookie League" because this is where players get their start. Teeball is for boys and girls ages 5 and 6. The emphasis is on fun and skill development. No score is kept. Every player bats each inning. We try to keep team sizes as small as possible to allow for better practices and more participation during games. For more information about Teeball, contact our Teeball Vice President, Ron Hiser |

6 Year Old Coach Pitch - Baseball If a player has played Teeball as a five-year-old in a chartered Little League program, he or she is eligible for our first division of Coach Pitch. Players may choose however to remain in Rookie League. In 6YO Coach Pitch, the season is split into three parts. In the first third, the teams play Teeball. In the second third, some coach pitching is introduced. In the final third, the tee is not used at all. This division was added to bridge the gap between Teeball and Coach Pitch and is a great choice for a six year old who has already developed basic skills. For information on this division, contact Jeff White. |

Single A ("A") ****Changes in 2008**** Due to changes in Little League International rules this division has been eliminated. YCLL’s traditional AAA and AA divisions have been restructured to accommodate players in the 9 and 10 age groups which had been A and AA. |
Double A ("AA") ****Changes in 2008**** This is a baseball division for boys and girls 9 and 10. All players must attend a skills evaluation. Players will be selected to AAA or AA by virtue of the manager's draft which follows the evaluation. The "AA" division is generally for those players who need a bit more skill development. Many parents choose to request that their child be placed in this division as there is not quite as much focus on competition as there can be in AAA. A request of this nature should be made BEFORE the tryouts! A player who does not request this division before the tryouts may be "called up" to AAA during the season. For information, contact Jeff Strickland. |
Major Softball ****Changes in 2008**** This is the division of softball for girls 11 and 12. We continue to maintain one of the best softball programs in Southeastern Virginia with our 9/10 and 11/12 Tournament teams annually making a run at District and State Championships. This is an excellent division for developing skills for girls who want to have fun, but also for those who anticipate trying out for Middle and High School teams in the future. All Teams will be entirely redrafted in 2008. Every player must attend a skills evaluation prior to the season. For information, contact Kristi Kurz. |
AAA Baseball ****Changes in 2008**** This is baseball division for boys and girls ages 9, 10 and 11. The focus continues to be on fun and skill development. However, because this division is made up of the players with more advanced baseball skills, there is a somewhat higher level of competition. Players who participate in AAA as 9 and 10 year olds are not necessarily guaranteed to play AAA the following year. Generally this division is comprised of only a few very outstanding 9 year olds. Our 9/10 Tournament Teams are selected from this division. For information, contact Jeff Strickland. |
Major League ****Changes in 2008**** This division is also known as "Little League" and is the marquee division of the Little League system. This is the division which forms the teams that are seen on ESPN and ABC at the end of the summer. This division is for 11 and 12 year olds only. All 12 year olds will be drafted into the Major Division starting in 2008. This league will be entirely redrafted in 2008. ALL PLAYERS must attend a skills evaluation. The level of skill and competition at this level is fairly high. Our “11 Year Old” and “Little League” (11/12) Tournament teams are drawn from this division. For information, contact Ron Kurz.

Junior League Softball ****Changes in 2008**** ***May be a combined Junior/Senior Division*** This division is for 13 and 14 year old girls. This outstanding program holds the current District Championship title, won by one of our tournament teams drawn from this division. Tryouts are required (though everyone is placed on a team.) All Teams will be entirely redrafted in 2008. Every player must attend a skills evaluation prior to the season. For information, contact Lee Ann Shelhorse. |
Junior League Baseball ****Changes in 2008**** This is a division for 13 and 14 year olds. This is the first division where a full-sized baseball field is used. All Teams will be entirely redrafted in 2008. Every player must attend a skills evaluation prior to the season. One of our Jr League teams won the Virginia State Championship and was the Regional Runner-Up in 2002, losing to Georgia in the Regional semi-finals. For information, contact Clark Parrish. |
Senior League Softball ****Changes in 2008**** ***May be a combined Junior/Senior Division*** This is our Softball division for 15 and 16 year olds. All Teams will be entirely redrafted in 2008. Every player must attend a skills evaluation prior to the season. The 2002 Tournament Team from this division won the Virginia State Championship and was one step away from the World Series with a loss to Florida in the Regional finals. For information, contact Lee Ann Shelhorse. |
